Gas Safety Information

• ■Use all cylinders, regulators, hoses and appliances strictly according to the manufacturer's instructions.
• ■Confirm that your regulator, fittings, hose and appliance are compatible with each other and with the cylinder before use. If you are not sure, ask us.
• ■Check hoses, seals, valves, regulators and fittings for cracks, perishing, wear or damage before every use.
• ■Never use a damaged, corroded, dented or leaking cylinder, hose, regulator, valve or fitting. Take it out of service.
• ■Make sure connections are correctly fitted and properly tightened before opening the cylinder valve.

• ■Keep cylinders upright at all times, both in use and in storage.
• ■Secure cylinders so they cannot fall, roll or be knocked over.
• ■Keep cylinders away from open flames, sparks, hot surfaces, electrical equipment and any other ignition source.
• ■Do not expose cylinders to excessive heat or direct, prolonged sun.
• ■Close the cylinder valve when the appliance is not in use.
• ■Transport cylinders upright, secured, and with adequate ventilation in the vehicle.

Gas appliances consume oxygen and produce combustion by-products. Use gas equipment only in areas with appropriate ventilation, and follow the appliance instructions on indoor and outdoor use. Never use an appliance intended for outdoor use inside a closed room, tent, caravan or vehicle.

• ■Never test for a gas leak with a naked flame, lighter or match.
• ■Use an approved leak-detection method, such as a soapy water solution brushed onto the connection — bubbles indicate a leak.
• ■Re-check connections after every cylinder change.

• ■Do not create any ignition source. No flames, no lighters, no smoking.
• ■Do not switch electrical switches or appliances on or off, and avoid anything that can spark.
• ■Shut off the gas supply at the cylinder valve if it is safe to do so.
• ■Ventilate the area, or move people to a safe area away from the gas, as appropriate.
• ■Obtain assistance from a qualified, registered gas practitioner before using the equipment again.
• ■In an emergency, contact emergency services.

Gas installations, alterations, permanent pipework and any work requiring a Certificate of Conformity must be carried out by an appropriately qualified and registered gas practitioner, as required by South African regulations. Do not attempt this work yourself and do not modify equipment or fittings.

Keep gas cylinders, equipment, lighters and firelighters away from children. Never leave a burning appliance unattended, and allow equipment to cool before handling or storing it.
